Activity 2
Dear students
This activity is related to Egyptian Mythology
As you know I announced a test about this lesson for Thursday (18th November), but the test will be postponed for Friday as I would like to provide you with additional instructions about my new project which is called "Virtual English Classroom".
The class on Thursday will contain the three following points:
1. Providing with additional instructions about the VEP (Virtual English Program)
2. Giving instructions about the test
3. Answering questions related to the text
Studying this text we are working on a reading technique by the name Extensive Reading.
Let's find out something more about this reading technique
What is “Extensive Reading”?
Extensive reading is an approach to language learning, including foreign language learning, by the means of a large amount of reading. The learners view and review of unknown words in specific context will allow the learner to infer the word's meaning, and thus to learn unknown words.
What is the purpose of “Extensive Reading”?
The purposes of reading are usually related to pleasure, information and general understanding.
Where does “Extensive Reading” take place?
Students read as much as possible, perhaps in and definitely out of the classroom.
Now when we know what Extensive reading is, answer these questions and write down the answers in your notebook. Answering these questions will help you take part in our discussion in the classroom on Thursday.
1. What is the title of this story?
2. What type of story is it?
3. Who is the main character in this story?
4. Who is in the story?
5. Where does the story take place?
6. When does it happen?
7. What is it about?
8. What are the main characters like?
9. What are the unexpected developments or problems in the story?
10. What is the lesson of the story?
11. Why are you reading the text?
12. Are you reading with a purpose or just for pleasure?
13. What do you want to know after reading it?
Deadline for this task is 17th November 2010.
Best regards,
Teacher Milosh
